Tip 1
Anyone not reading Atomic Habits? :)
If you want to use something more then design the layout to encourage this. How? Humans do like proximity and immediacy. Put the art where you can see it everyday, add the convenient shoe stage at the entryway if you want that 'no shoes in the house' policy to stick. Strengthen the spatial definitions at home to encourage your good habits. It works. Remember Design is for something. Art is about Something. Let design solve the problems.
Tip 2
A space will feel more balanced if the primary form (created by walls, floor and ceiling) has an articulation that runs counter to it. Too long a corridor? Break up the length with perpendicular elements.
Awkward curved wall or structural column in your apartment? try a radial floor layout rather than concentric.
Need more joy in your entryway? Try a patterned floor mosaic tile.
Awkward shaped floor? try orienting the floor finish so that it counters the shape rather than following it. The secondary articulation will offset the awkwardness of the primary form.
Boring rectangular shaped room? Do striations across rather than parallel to the main axis of a dull and boring rectangular room.
